Commercial HVAC technicians are the professionals who handle the installation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. To be successful in their work, they need technical skills and soft skills as well – here is what it takes to make a career in handling commercial HVAC systems:

  • Technical skills – commercial HVAC technicians need to be familiar with how HVAC units work and they also need to be able to read wiring diagrams and other types of technical drawings. They also need to be able to carry out the scheduled interventions in a timely and professional manner.
  • Other types of professional knowledge – HVAC units, even small one, are complex machines that work with electricity or gas, so commercial HVAC technicians also need to possess knowledge regarding the safety regulations to be obeyed when installing, maintaining or repairing HVAC equipment. Knowledge in commercial refrigerator systems are beneficial.
  • Certificates, qualifications, licenses and other documents – each state has their own set of requirements regarding the qualifications and the licenses required of HVAC technicians and the type of the insurance and bonds are also different for each state.
  • Communication skills – HVAC technicians need to communicate professionally with clients, suppliers and coworkers as well.
  • Accuracy, punctuality – two skills that are essential for making a career in HVAC installation, repair and maintenance.
